TEFL 496 TRANSLATION PROJECT
For this project, you need to work in pairs or in groups of three or individually. You need to prepare a wiki to introduce specific features of Turkey (e.g., the traditions, the Turkish language -the idioms, expressions and the origin of these expressions, the rituals - e.g., the Henna night (Kına gecesi), the cultural artifacts, characteristics of Turkish people, regions, the sighteeing places in Turkey, various historical places). You need to provide both a description and the origin/history of these features and their significance in your project. You are free to choose whichever aspect that you like. You need to prepare at least four subdivisions related to the main aspect and the subdivisions that you have chosen. You need to prepare the parts in Turkish and an English translation next to or underneath them. You are expected to upload links, and relevant websites, pictures to further inform your audience, with explanations both in English and in Turkish. You need to also provide your rational behind your choice of the topic and the relevant aspects. You also need to upload a video in Turkish/English, and provide a mini-summary of the content in the video in Turkish/English and point out the relevance of the video to your topic. You also need to interview some native speakers of Turkish about your topic and videotape the interview and upload them to your page (You need to provide the transcript of the original interview and its translation into English). The groups need to prepare an outline of their projects and consult the instructor by May 20, 2012. You are expected to comment on 2 of your classmates" wikis as well. The deadline for the wiki preparation is the June 13, 2012. The last day for the comments is June 15.
